FAQ'S TO CONSIDER WHEN PURCHASING HARDWOOD FLOORING

ANY HARDWOOD YOU PURCHASE WHETHER IT IS A SOLID OR AN ENGINEERED SHOULD BE PLACED IN THE AREA IT IS TO BE INSTALLED AT LEAST 3-5 DAYS BEFORE INSTALLATION.

THIS IS NECESSARY TO PROMOTE THE PROPER ACCLIMATION OF THE HARDWOOD TO THE HUMIDITY AND MOISTURE LEVEL AT WHICH IT WILL BE OVER ITS LIFETIME.

HARDWOOD FLOORING WILL ABSORB MOISTURE OUT OF THE AIR OR FROM THE SUBFLOOR BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER INSTALLATION.

THE HARDWOOD NEEDS TO BE WITHIN A RANGE OF MOISTURE CONTENT OF 5-8% WHILE THE SUBFLOOR SHOULD BE WITHIN 2% OF THE HARDWOOD.

HARDWOOD FLOORING WILL GAP SLIGHTLY DURING THE WINTER MONTHS:

THIS IS DUE TO THE LOWER HUMIDITY LEVELS DURING THE WINTER MONTHS. THE HARDWOOD WILL LOOSE MOISTURE WHEN THE AIR IS DRYER AND WILL NATURALLY GAP. THIS IS NOT A DEFECT BUT IS A CHARACTERISTIC OF HARDWOOD.

A VAPOR BARRIER IS NECCESSARY WHEN INSTALLING HARDWOOD:

A VAPOR BARRIER IS USED TO KEEP THE MOISTURE CONTENT OF THE HARDWOOD RELATIVELY STABLE.

A VAPOR BARRIER WILL MINIMIZE THE TRAVELING OF MOISTURE FROM THE SUBFLOOR TO THE HARDWOOD.

JOBSITE CONDITIONS PLAY A KEY ROLE IN THE OUTCOME OF THE INSTALLATION OF HARDWOOD:

THE JOBSITE MUST BE KEPT CLEAN AND DRY BEFORE AND AFTER THE INSTALLATION OF HARDWOOD.

IF THERE IS A MOISTURE PROBLEM IT WILL NEED TO BE TAKEN CARE OF BEFORE INSTALLING HARDWOOD.

THE HARDWOOD AS WELL AS THE SUBFLOOR NEED TO BE CHECKED FOR MOISTURE CONTENT BEFORE INSTALLATION.
